Since 2012, Pisgah Banjo Co. in Ashville, North Carolina has been building open-back banjos with sustainably harvested North American hardwood. I reached out to Pisgah Banjos to see if they were interested in collaborating on a project.
Open-back banjos were popular in America during the 1800s through the 1930s. A majority of old-time banjos were sold through mailorder catalogs such as Sears Roebuck and Montgomery Wards. Mailorder catalogs from the late-1890s were the primary inspiration for the design. I achieved the look with simple elements such as fonts, justified type, colors, etch-style illustrations, and dividing sections by borders. I updated their WordPress CSS styles to reflect their new look.
